METHODISTS ASKED TO CARRY THE ARMOR OF GOD.

By Dominic Andoh

Ghana Methodist Societies in Massachusetts and Connecticut organized their first
Retreat and Camp Meeting at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center in
Massachusetts from September 9 to 11, 2011. The theme for the Camp Meeting was
“Standing against the devil’s schemes”, with reference to the book of Ephesians
6:10-20.

The retreat was herald by a twenty-one day fasting and prayers led by Evangelist
Thomas Ofori (MA) and Rev’d Lawrence Yaw Owusu (CT). Over seventy-nine delegates
participated in the retreat.

Delivering the Keynote Address on the theme, the Rev’d Lawrence Owusu, Caretaker of
the New Covenant Ghana Methodist Congregation asked delegates and Christians to be
strong in the Lord and in His mighty power so that they can take their stand against
the devil’s plans to destroy what they have earned in life. Rev’d Owusu also urged
members to give stern consideration to the Methodist Hymn 578 and its contents. He
declared “That Hymns is a narration of faith, it is a personal testimony. Stressing
on the word “I“which runs through the entire hymn. According to Rev’d Owusu, our
Lord calls us to stand firm, with the belt of truth which is the armor of God
buckled around our waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with
our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

An open forum on the way forward and structures for the two congregations were led
by Brothers Kwaku Arhin-Sam (MA), Dominic Andoh (CT), and Sister Mary Ofori.
Delegates asked pertinent questions on these areas and more in an instructive but
relaxed forum. Lay leaders and the Clergy present offered relevant contributions on
the topics that came up for discussion.

As part of the Retreat, there was a Revival Night. The main speaker was Evangelist
Thomas Ofori of Good Shepherd Methodist Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. He asked
Christians to endeavor to work out their salvation as the Bible states, adding that
being a Christian is an Act of God. He led the delegates through signs that
signifies the armor of God and conducted the healing and deliverance sessions where
many received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Delegates in a report indicated that they have been blessed spiritual and physical
and looking forward to next year’s event. TO GOD BE THE GLORY.
