Ghanaweb continues to expose a member of the Ghanaian community and giving him/her a worldwide recognition where recognition is deserved. This is because there are many unsung heroes within our community not getting the worldwide recognition they deserve. We are exposing Ghanaians whose achievements/milestones needs to be seen and appreciated. Imagine dedicating your life to do a good thing so one would benefit. Imagine showing alertness/quick thinking so the unthinkable and unimaginable does not happen.
Such is what happened to Mr Fredrick Mensah. We are putting a spotlight on Mr. Mensah's unselfish, caring (avoiding the "I don't carism") and taking a matter into his own hands and the love for his community. He was among the award recipients who also included 46 police officers and another member of the public. He was awarded for "Showing commendable alertness in recognising the potential danger to a female who was attempting to commit suicide".
The story read that;
On 11th December 2003, Mr Mensah an employee as a security guard at Lewisham Shopping Centre, London, UK, was carrying out a routine check of the multi-storey car park. He looked over the edge of the car park and noticed that a woman was below and looked as if she was preparing to jump over the edge. Because of Mr Mensah's alertness and quick thinking, he immediately shouted for the woman to stop and ran towards her, taking the woman to the ground and thus stopping her from jumping.
Mr. Mensah prevented a suicide attempt, a loss of life, an enduring pain and loss of a dear one to be suffered by the victim's family. Life is precious and his award deserves recognition Ghanaweb's spotlight.
Mr. CNN and Ghanaweb say "More grease to your elbow Mr. Mensah". We need more heroes like you.
