Ghanaian man arrested in South Africa

for attempting to smuggle pistols

A man from Ghana has been arrested in South Africa for attempting to smuggle firearms, ammunition and mobile phones into Ghana, the South African media has reported.

The unidentified 35-year-old man was arrested at the Durban international airport with two pistols, ammunition and mobile phones the South African police said.

The man, according to the police was arrested Thursday following a tip-off. “Police discovered a 9mm, a .38 pistol, a 7.65 pistol, several rounds of ammunition and five cellphones in the man’s suitcase,” a police spokesperson told the media.

According to the reports, the 7.65 pistol found on him has been reported stolen during a housebreaking in Pietermaritzburg last month. The man, however reportedly told the police that the mobile phones were sold to him in his salon in Durban. He is due for court on Monday.
