High Commissioner-Designate Arrives in Canada

Dr (Mrs.) Margaret Ivy Amoakohene, High-Commissioner-Designate of the Republic of Ghana to Canada, arrived in Ottawa on Thursday, July 27 2006. She is scheduled to present her Letters of Credence to Her Excellency The Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada on September 19 2006.

Until her appointment as High Commissioner to Canada by His Excellency President John Agyekum Kufuor, Dr Amoakohene was a Senior Lecturer at the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester, England; a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Ghana.

Dr Margaret Amoakohene has held many positions in the University of Ghana and in Ghanaian national life serving on several boards and committees including the National Media Commission (NMC), the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).

Dr Amoakohene is married to Maxwell Amoakohene. They have three children: Lady 17, Kofi 10 and Nana Yaa 7. The High Commissioner-Designate promised to work closely with all the Ghanaian communities across Canada.
