Kumasi Zongo residents in the USA to support dev't

The USA branch of the Kumasi Zongo Association is to mobilise funds to support social development especially girl-child education in Kumasi Zongo.

Fund-raising activities would be held in the USA and the proceeds channeled to the Sarkin Zongo of Kumasi and Ulemaus to support the programme.

Alhaji Yusif Kuree, Vice-President of the Association, announced this in Kumasi at the weekend when he was honoured with the title "Turaki" by the Sarkin Zongo of Kumasi, Alhaji Ibrahim Dansoho in appreciation of his contributions to the progress of Kumasi Zongo.

The title makes him an advisor on development issues to the Sarkin Zongo.

Alhaji Kuree, a businessman in New York, said the priority of the Association was to encourage more girls from the community to acquire formal education to the highest level.

He said the Association would offer scholarship and other incentives to encourage more girls to enroll in school.

Alhaji Kuree said he would explore avenues to provide educational facilities for schools in the area.

The Association would also sponsor an HIV/AIDS campaign to educate the Zongo community on the dangers of the menace.
