Kwakwaduam Celebrates Cultural Awareness Month

Kwakwaduam Association of New York Celebrates Cultural Awareness Month
The month of September has been set aside by Kwakwaduam as the cultural awareness month where activities are organized by the Association to inculcate Ghanaian culture particularly the Akuapem Culture into the lives of members and to assimilate the culture into the fabric of our children’s upbringing so that they can to continue to appreciate our roots

The theme for this month was the “Fomtomfrom Drumming and Dancing” The fomtomfrom drums are a seven piece ensemble that is powerful way of communication and danced through an intricate set of steps and gestures that distinguish the caliber of various dancers. This was taught at the monthly meeting through an audio – visual presentation by Dr. Kwame Aniapam Boafo and a demonstration of the dance by Mr. Kwabena Asare.

Osahene Nana Kwasi Agyeman IV Kurontihene of Akwapim, Tufuhemaa Nana Yaa Boahemaa I and Mponuahene Nana Apau Kissiedu were there to grace the occasion. Osahene gave a brief introduction to the significance of Fomtomfrom the most prominent cultural art form of the Akuapem people. He said he was indeed pleased that Kwakwaduam has included in its programing the culture of its people. Also present were Drs. Samuel Abrokwah and Dr Baah Asante he himself an ardent believer and dancer of Fomtomfrom
