The Mayor of the city of Macon, Georgia Atlanta, the Honorable Jack Ellis, will pay a working visit to Ghana from February 4, 2007.
His visit is in conjunction with Ghana?s Golden Homecoming 2007 programme aimed to attract more than a thousand visitors to Ghana during the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
The Hon. Ellis will arrive with a team of experts and investors including Mr Larry Avery, an African American business executive in the telecommunication business to explore business opportunities in the telecom sector among other areas. He will as part of his literary interact with some government officials including the Ministers of Tourism and Communications and deliver a goodwill message from the people of Georgia to Ghana on towards the 50th Independence Anniversary.
The organizers of Ghana?s Golden Homecoming 2007 programme extended an invitation to the Mayor last year at the launch of the programme in Georgia Atlanta as a prelude to the actual Homecoming this year.
The Golden Homecoming programme is a Ghanaian and African-American collaboration aimed to attract more than a thousand Ghanaians and Africans in the Diaspora to visit Ghana during the 50th Independence Anniversary celebration. The organizers are also promoting the ?Joseph Project.?
An International Coordinating Committee spearheading the Golden Homecoming programme believes it will promote a reunion of Ghanaians and provide a unique opportunity for people of African descent as well as friends of Ghana and Africa to rededicate themselves to the ideals of Pan-Africanism.
The Mayor?s visit is therefore significant as it would send a strong signal on the seriousness and dedication for which the crusade of the homecoming was formed.
Various activities have been lined up towards the Homecoming which has been gazzetted by the National Planning Committee with organizational support from the Ghana@50 Secretariat.
Mr. Hugh K. Aryee,
(Co-Chairman, Ghana?s Golden Homecoming 2007)
