Their membership is under 50, yet with determination and by the grace of God, the Montreal Ghanaian SDA Church has acquired their own place of worship at the cost of $404,000. Praise be unto God!
3901 Henri Bourassa, Saint-Laurent in Quebec which now houses the Ghanaian congregation was made a place of joy when representatives from most of the Ghanaian SDA Churches in North America gathered on April 7, 2007 for the opening ceremony and fundraising.
Ghanaian Pastors who attended the function from USA, Canada and Europe included Pastor H. V. A. Kuma from New York, Pastor Enoch K. Affum from Washington D.C., Pastor I. B. Boateng from Columbus-Ohio, Pastor P. A. Sampah from Andrews University-USA, Pastor Oppong Damson from Toronto, the host Pastor Kwasi Ansah-Adu (Montreal) and Pastor I. Donkor from Germany.
The President of the Quebec Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Gordon Gray, performed the dedication of the church building. Pastor Gray who had a 20-year missionary work experience in Africa used the Biblical call, “go to every nation” to encourage the Ghanaian church in Montreal to embrace God’s call to reach out to people for Christ. He prayed that the sanctuary would be a dwelling place for God among His people. And that His presence would be felt always.
The guest preacher for the day was the veteran Adventist Pastor, H.V.A. Kuma who is the Senior Pastor of 1st Ghana S.D.A. Church in New York, USA. He spoke about the 2nd coming of our Lord Jesus Christ under the topic: “What, Divine Delay?” Pastor Kuma theologically explained why there should be a period of delay before the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He questioned, “Jesus is coming soon; ARE YOU READY?” That, God wants to save us. He wants to save those outside there too, so as a church we need do the Lord’s command of sending the Gospel to ALL!
The Montreal Church started as a Company in 1995. It worshipped at the Adventist Academy School Building for many years. It moved out of the School Building in 1998 but had to return till 2007 when it acquired its own place of worship.
The new church Pastor for the Montreal Ghanaian SDA Church, Pastor Kwasi Ansah Adu was full of gratitude for what God has been able to do with the small congregation. He also thanked all the representative churches from Toronto and USA as well as sister Ghanaian churches in Montreal for their support. The fundraising yielded $27,000.
