NDC Canada Greets Ghanaian Workers on May Day

May 1, 2012
On this May Day, the National Democratic Congress, Canada Chapter (NDC Canada) extends to Ghanaian workers our warmest greetings and thanks for their courage and perseverance in building a Better Ghana
May Day which is an International Labour Day represents both the strength and sacrifice of the working class across the world. It reminds us that all workers, employers, the Government of Ghana, civil society as well as all stakeholders need to cooperate in laying a solid foundation for building a Better Ghana.
The Government of Ghana under the leadership of H.E. President John Evans Atta Mills has undertaken several important measures since coming into office in 2009 aimed at improving the working conditions and welfare of the working class despite the enormous challenges left behind by eight years of reckless and irresponsible spending of the NPP.
The Mills administration has rolled about 99% of all government workers unto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) and currently working assiduously to complete the process. The government has provided several social security measures to Ghanaian workers and their families including expanding the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), increased the capitation grant, free school uniforms, expanded and regularized the School Feeding Program, distributed free laptops and exercise books to school children and eliminated “School under Trees” in pursuance of Ghana Government’s commitment to ensure that no child in Ghana is left behind.
The Mills administration is committed to eliminating child labour in hazardous areas and it is focused on creating public awareness to this effect whilst improving the economic conditions of all Ghanaian families under the Better Ghana Agenda. In order to encourage employment of persons with disabilities, the Mills administration has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to commit 2% of the District Assemblies Common Fund for the training and empowerment of person with disabilities while a new and modernized Pensions Scheme for this sector is being pursued with all the attention it deserves.
With solemn promise, the NDC government led by President John Evans Atta Mills would continuously pursue every effort to promote the welfare of all Ghanaian workers.
NDC Canada, therefore, calls on fellow Ghanaians to resist any attempts by cowards and selfish politicians to use hate speech and genocidal statements to cause fear and panic in the country for the sake of winning power at all costs.
Once again, we convey our very best wishes to all Ghanaian workers and their families on this auspicious May Day.
LONG LIVE GHANA!!!
LONG LIVE GHANAIAN WORKERS!!!
LONG LIVE THE NDC!!!

Signed
