We, members of the National Democratic Congress, Canada Chapter (NDC Canada), would like to pledge our unflinching support for His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, the sitting President of the Republic of Ghana. We also unequivocally support the President’s bid for a second term.
We acknowledge the courage of former First Lady Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and congratulate her for resigning her position as Vice Chairman of the NDC in accordance with our party’s constitution, to consider the numerous calls on her to contest as the flag bearer of the NDC for the 2012 elections. This is another testimony of your belief in the rule of law, irrespective of your position in the party.
We recognized that this courageous act clearly attests to the fact that members of the NDC are free to contest even an incumbent President. It also goes to prove to the entire world the internal democracy that exists in the National Democratic Congress party of Ghana.
We, however, do not believe that an early congress alone can be a solution to the party’s current internal problems and lead us to victory in 2012. It is clear that the current situation and our failure to address the issues are affecting the morale of even our core members. It is also having a significant impact on the party’s image and our momentum towards victory 2012.
Additionally, NDC Canada is of the view that the only way to finding a lasting solution is by acknowledging the problems, seriously addressing them whilst bearing in mind that the party is bigger than any of us. We should also caution our ministers, especially, the deputies to be mindful of their utterances in this trying period of our great party. Some of their public pronouncements do not help the situation. We are also calling on our people in high authority to acknowledge and consider within the confines of the ‘Father for all policy’ the sacrifices made by our members who toiled in diverse ways to bring this party back to power.
Finally, we wish to encourage the Founder of our great party, His Excellency Ft. Lt. JJ Rawlings, our Party Leader and President of Ghana His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills, party national leadership and people in government to come together as a united family to address these critical issues and re-unite the party to work for a common purpose that would lead the NDC to another resounding victory in 2012.
Signed
