PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEBRUARY 6TH, 2009 NDC UK IRELAND BRANCH REACTS TO RECENT COMMENTS BY DR EKOW SPIO-GABRAH

It has come to the notice of the NDC UK/Ireland Branch that a recent comment by Dr Ekow Spio-Gabrah has generated some reaction from members and the Ghanaian community here in the UK and elsewhere. We believe Dr Spio-Gabrah enjoys the right to comment on any issue pertaining to our party, however, we also believe his comments just like any other members comments must be measured. After all our new government is just about one month old and none of us is oblivious of this fact. To this effect we want to make the following reactions to Dr Spio-Gabrah’s comments:

We are not aware of any group called ‘Friends of Spio-Gabrah’ in the UK. If this group does exist, it is not a known affiliate of the NDC in the UK. After all, President Mills have on several occasions advised on the cessation of activities of all splinter groups that profess to be affiliated to the NDC in the interest of party cohesion. There is only one NDC and this must be made clear to all of us. No member of the current executive was party to the statement made by Dr Spio-Gabrah. We are also not aware of involvement of any leading member or elder of the party in the UK. Our Chairman Alex Segbefia, the Executives and the entire membership are resolved for a common purpose of projecting the ideals of the NDC as a credible vehicle for the development of our country Ghana. We fully support the leadership of President Mills. We understand some of our members have personal preferences for personalities who they believe should have been given certain responsibilities in our new, but we also have to understand that the ultimate decision maker in those circumstances is the president. It is therefore important for all responsible party faithful to engage in their lobbying, criticisms in the spirit of oneness. After all, the party membership has lots of talented and dedicated people who qualify to serve in one capacity or the other, but not all of us could be appointed to fill the limited positions of leadership at the same time. We are resolved to focus on the most important agenda of fulfilling our social contract with the people of Ghana and nothing must be done to impede our progress. The goal is about helping to improve the quality of life of our people. We advice that those who have personal agenda to pursue in the party must do so in remits of the party constitution and civility.

Long Live President Mills… Long Live NDC Long Live Ghana God Bless us all.
