NDC's Boboobi insults all women – NPP-USA Women’s Wing

Comedians of the NDC never cease to amaze when it comes to thoughtless and tasteless utterances. Just when you thought they had reached the utmost height of disrespect and buffoonery, they come again with another unthinkable pronouncement that defies all expectations of level-headedness, and once again demonstrates their gross ignorance.

A so-called leading member of the NDC Communication Team, by the name of Godwin Boboobi, proclaimed that Nana Konadu [Agyemang Rawlings] “has attained menopausal age and it may be affecting her way of reasoning and analysis of issues.” (See Ghanaweb article at http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Menopause-affecting-Konadu-s-thoughts-Boboobi-427650.

What is wrong with this Boboobi guy? Where did he grow up, and indeed, who raised him? His uncouth assault on women just shows his lack of basic human decency and upbringing. The Lady Elephants of NPP-USA take exception to his insinuation that women of a certain age exhibit menopausal symptoms that diminish their ability to think. Was he born of a woman? Doesn’t the NDC have women among them who are of that age, whatever “that age” is? What does Boboobi know about menopause and its so-called symptoms? We find his condescending tone (“I think that our mom… she is of age now, age is catching up… I mean it’s normal, she is growing, and at her age we expect that these are menopausal symptoms”) utterly disgusting. This is downright insulting to all women everywhere. Period.

Maybe Boboobi thought he was being funny, but that was a crude, offensive and distasteful “joke” that only exposed his grotesque ignorance of Ghanaian culture which symbolically and literally regards the “abrewa” (“old woman” in the Akan language) as the repository of wisdom. We find though, that these kinds of uncultured pronouncements seem to be the shameless stock-in-trade of the NDC. One day, it is one of their “leading members” mocking a disabled member of another political party for being wheelchair-bound; another day it is another leading member hurling insults at the clergy, and calling them all kinds of unmentionable names. What kind of arrogant behavior is that? Freedom of speech must go hand-in-hand with responsibility.

Boboobi must bow his head in shame. He owes an unqualified apology not only to Nana Konadu, but to universal womanhood in general.
