NPP Italy To Hold Chapter And Branch Elections

The NPP electoral committee Italy (NPPECIT) on 28th December 2009 held its first meeting in Verona - Veneto region of Italy after it was inaugurated at the historic conference in Palermo on 12th December 2009. The committee with representatives from all the 10 chapters: Palermo, Piacenza, Pordenone, Parma, Verona, Naples, Brecia, Modena, Vicenza and Reggio Emillia, met with one common goal. After the chairman of the committee - Mr. Albert Obeng Yeboah- had given his introductory speech, the meeting lunched into business. Attendees introduced themselves.

The committee met to draw electoral rules and regulations proceeding the impending NPP Italy Branch elections. The agenda was categorised into two: Chapter and Branch Elections. Mr. Kay Agyemang Boateng-(Parma) moved that the chapter elections be held on 27th and 28th February respectively. The entire participants seconded without counter motions. More importantly, the committee agreed upon delegate conference to elect branch executives as article 6, section 3 indicates in the newly amended NPP constitution. 13th March is the date set aside to elect the branch executives at Brecia. Newly elected executives at The Delegates Conference will be inaugurated by the General Secretary and Director of External Affairs of the Party.

Among other things deliberated upon was eligibility of candidates and voters, deadline for voters and or applicants registrations, ineligibility, positions to vote on, etc. Every decision was taken under the preamble of the NPP constitution, however, to suit the parameters of NPP Italy.

In an interview with “BOSS radio”-Vicenza, the chairman of the election committee said the party must unite for their voice to be heard in Ghana just as their colleagues in the USA, UK, Holland, etc..“ It is high time the patriotic members of NPP in Italy came together in unity to elect their executives and begin preparation towards 2012 to recapture power from NDC” he said. “The good people of Ghana are sick and tired of surreptitiousness so NPP supporters ought to emerge from behind the scene and help NPP to come into government come 2012 election to set Ghanaians free from economic devastation and poverty” he admitted.
