NPP-NY Congratulates Organizers and Participants of 'Yay3 D3n' Demo

Indeed, Kumasi went gaga on Tuesday, June 10th, 2014! The enthusiasm, exuberance and sense of responsibility exhibited by the people in the Ashanti region on this very day will go into the history of our body “politick”. The "Yay3 d3n" demonstration has clearly demonstrated the loud voice and huge powers wield by the people of this country.

The demonstration which was premised on the unpopular "dumso-dumso", the infamous NHIS Capitation policy in the region and the general economic hardship in the country was a real success. The repercussions of these stated inefficiencies, corruption and incompetence of the Mahama led government can be felt across the region. The capitation policy has virtually ushered in the killer "cash and carry" system which has delivered heavy blows on the lives of the residents in the region. Many health facilities are now opting out from the NHIS system, because the NHIS is broke and unable to fulfill its financial obligation to these facilities. These have been triggered by the illegalities on part of government!

On the other hand, the erratic power supply has adversely affected the economic activities of the people in the region; in homes, health facilities, hospitality industry, to those running cold stores through to Suame Magazine, and other individual businesses which largely depend on electricity. That is not all. It has also given rise to criminal activities in the Kumasi Metropolis, especially during the night. This continues to put the lives of innocent residents in danger.

Evidently, the level of disenchantment, despondency etc could clearly be seen in the turnout of this mammoth demo. The number of people who took to the streets of Kumasi was so huge that it has rocked the foundation of the Mahama government. It was massive, and even to the disillusionment of the regional police commander DCOP Kofi Boakye who claimed under his world view that it was disorganized. He had wished.

NPP-NY by this statement congratulates the organizing team who successfully mapped-up strategies and plans of the demo to bring forth the frustrations of the residents of the region to bare. Equally, the participants cannot be left out of this congratulatory message. We are very much aware of how stressful and strenuous this engagement was, and fully compliment and acknowledge your enormous efforts.

Indeed, Asanteman has overwhelmed fellow Ghanaians by displaying such high sense of responsibility to the call of duty. They have really expressed their spleen against the unfair treatment been meted out to them by the incompetent Mahama administration. We will continue to urge the people of Kumasi and its environs not to relax in their pursuit for the betterment of life required of the government. We expected such expression to continue unabated in order to drive home their ordeal into the "yentie obiaa" ears of John Mahama.

Now, the fact is that, the economic hardship that has been precipitated by unprecedented corruption at the seat of government affects all facets of lives across the country. We therefore call on other regions to rise up and support the clarion call from and by the people for socio-economic justice from the corrupt Mahama led administration.. Emperor Haile Selasi once said "throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph." It's time to stand up and be counted!

Let the spirit of our forebears which struggled for socio-economic and political justice from the oppressor be rekindled across the country, and together, Ghana will be put back to work.

Once again, congratulations to the organizers and participant of the "Yay3 D3n" demo!
Well done, Patriots. Well done, Asanteman!
