NPP UK and Ireland Salutes Major Oduro (rtd)

The New Patriotic Party, UK and Ireland Branch would like to congratulate the MP elect for Nkoranza North for winning the seat on behalf of NPP. Major Oduro who won the poll with a majority of 10,179 and a margin of more than 5,000 votes from the NDC has proved with his victory that the NPP is still a force to reckon with.

The UK branch would also like to thank the local party executives and the good people of Nkoranza North for their sterling job. We would also like to thank the NDC candidate for a good fight. The National Executive Committee led by the Party Chairman Mr. Mac Manu deserves special praise in not taking things for granted and finally the President for his reinforcement visits to ensure that no stone was left unturned. The bye election has shown how the people of Nkoranza have been discerning in realising that the only party of government which offers choice and good value for money is the NPP. This choice is evidenced in the quality of leadership of the Party and its President in government. Throughout the week the nation has been basking in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence which has culminated in the President’s state visit to the UK and the people of Nkoranza could not have given mother Ghana a better birthday present than giving us an MP whose government stands for good governance, tolerant leadership and the deepening of democracy in Ghana.

The election result sends a signal to the NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings that his refusal to celebrate Ghana@50 with us he has chosen to ostracise himself and his party to all good and discerning people of Ghana.

The NPP continues to demonstrate its commitment to good fiscal policies which is putting Ghana firmly on the path to economic stability, even in the face of the fluctuating world oil prices. The Party in government has also demonstrated its commitment to effective and compassionate social programmes aimed at investing in the people of Ghana. These policies manifest themselves in the educational and health reforms as well as micro financing aimed at putting money in the pocket of the average Ghanaian.

As the first Party in government to undertake the multiple task and managements of the construction of six major trunk roads in Ghana, the NPP has demonstrated that it is the natural party to govern Ghana. While empowering the private sector with the Golden Age of Business the government has also not lost sight of public sector development especially in introducing the Metro Mass Transportation system. The NPP government has been magnanimous even in power with the President announcing at the week end that it does not intend to entrench itself in power, except the people want it to continue ruling Ghana. This is the mark of a truly compassionate and humble government. The youth of Ofinso have put their trust in the government for doing everything it could to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich by its job creation venture in the National Youth Employment programme. Aimed at creating over 150,000 jobs in 138 districts with a basic objective to change the standard of living for the youth to ensure that they were gainfully employed, this programme has been a stitch in time.

As a branch we call on the government and Party to consolidate the gains in Ofinso and replicate this effort all over the country in the run up to 2008 and Insha Allah the victory will be ours.

The NPP UK would finally like to thank the Ghanaians in UK and Ireland for their continued support and their words of encouragement, especially in the run up to this bye election. We would also like to thank the media here in UK especially Rainbow, WBLS, Kasapa, Hot, GFM and Afrique Fm for their role in educating Ghanaians about political development in Ghana.

We thank you all

Hayford Atta-Krufi Chairman, on behalf of NPP UK & Ireland
