Nana Attakora Amaniampong Okoawia inaugurated as New York Asantefuohene

On May 25, 2024, history was made as Nana Attakora Amaniampong Okoawia and Nana Kwaa Fobi were officially inaugurated as the Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa of New York, USA.

The newly Coronated New York Asantefuohene will serve a four-year term. His first term ends in 2028. However, the two-term limit allows him the possibility of another four-year tenure if he chooses to stand for re-election.

The swearing-in ceremony occurred at 140 W 170th St in The Bronx, where Nana Attakora Amaniampong assumed his role as a leader and representative of the Asante community in New York and its environs.

Ghana Entertainment Inc. organized the event, bringing together community members, dignitaries, and well-wishers. Nana Attakora Amaniampong was joined by his Queenmother and sub-chiefs, emphasizing the unity and continuity of Asante traditions even though they were far from their homeland.

As expected, the ceremony was undoubtedly a vibrant showcase of Asante traditions, filled with glitz, glamor, and pride. Nana Osei Agyeman Bawuah, Otumfuo Aboafuohene, officially represented Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The presence of other distinguished guests, such as COP (Rtd.) Kofi Boakye and others added prestige to the celebrations.

The coronation marks a significant moment for the Asante Kingdom as it extends its cultural heritage and leadership to the vibrant Ghanaian community in New York. Nana Attakora Amaniampong's commitment to preserving Asante customs and fostering community development will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.

Other seasoned emcees on the bill are Okodieba of NYC, and Kofi Boakye of Ohio performed admirably.
