The Kingdom of Hausa states has recognized the long years of sacrifice, dedication and work of a Nigerian-based Ghanaian, Dr. Abdul Razak Toure, with a chieftaincy title.
Today, the conventional medicine and holistic medicine practitioner, is the Sarkin Maganin Kasar Hausa (Chief of Traditional Medicine Hausa Land), Nigeria.
This was crowned by a ceremony on Saturday, August 24, 2024, where the chiefs and people of the community gathered to witness his traditional crowing as a chief.
In a letter announcing the honour bestowed on him, from the Daura Emirate Council, Emir’s Palace (Fadar Hausa), in GhanaWeb’s possession, it said in part;
“I am very pleased to inform you that my goodself and the entire members of my Council (Daura Emirate Council) have resolved to bestow upon you the traditional title of SARKIN MAGANIN KASAR HAUSA (Chief of Traditional Medicine of Hausa States).
“This is as a result of your contribution to healthcare delivery traditionally within and beyong Hausa Speaking States of Nigeria. Therefore, such contribution deserves recognition for which we find it reasonable to honour you with this Hausa Traditional Title.
“Therefore, I hope you will continue to keep it up to enable our people to continue benefitting from such contribution,” the letter signed by Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouk Umar Con Emir of Daura, said.
Speaking to GhanaWeb about the recognition, Dr. Razak Toure said this is a first in the history of Africa.
He explained that he believes that it because he has been able to establish cupping therapy in Hausa communities across Africa.
“This is the first time in history in Nigeria and the whole world in the Hausa states that anyone has been made chief of traditional medicine in this area. I believe it is because of the conventional medicine and the holistic medicine (tradition medicine) I have brought to the Haussa communities. I also invented cupping therapy in the Hausa communities, which is the first time in the history of Hausa communities in Africa.
“I was able to establish this everywhere in Africa and so, the kingdom of Hausa states, where the Hausa history begun, found it right to enstool me as a chief of traditional medicines of Africa,” he explained.
