New York - Okwawu United Association of USA & Canada, under the leadership of
Nana Opoku Ofosu, will hold its 24th annual conference in New York City from 2nd to
5th September 2011. This year’s conference will be attended by the delegates of

In a statement signed by the Chairman of Board of Directors, who is also the President
of Kwahuman Association of New York, Mr. Frederick Ansong-Dwamena, he
emphasized that, “this year’s conference is a historic moment for all since it also marks
the 30th anniversary of Kwahuman Association of New York Inc”. According to him, a
lot of measures are in place to make sure that the objectives set by the National
Secretariat are achieved during the three-day conference. This year, the 10-year
Educational Plan (Vision 2020) drafted by the Board last year in Washington D.C will be
launched to fulfill the commitments of Kwawus in the diaspora in the educational sector.

Public Library which will be equipped of 65 laptop computers and 10,000 books donated
by United Nations International School. Another project to be commissioned in
December 2011 and sponsored by Kwahuman Association of New York is a community
Assembly Hall complex at Mpraeso-Kwahu. This facility will house the offices and
meeting rooms of the Chiefs of Kwahu Traditional Area. “It is important for Kwahus in
the diaspora to contribute their quota to the development of Kwahu Traditional Area;
considering the sacrifices our forefathers made to make us proud as Kwahu citizens.
Certainly, we may not be able to address all the concerns and problems in Kwahu, due
to financial constraints, but we must start from somewhere” Mr. Ansong-Dwamena
added.
Okwawu United of USA & Canada is managed by three executives at the National
Head-office in New York. The purpose of forming such an umbrella organization, both in
Europe and North America, is to make sure there is uniformity and financial prudence in
developmental projects undertaken in the Kwahu Traditional area. Mr. Steve Darkwah,
the National Secretary of Okwawu United of USA and Canada stated that “It will be exciting to see our brothers and sisters from Europe and Canada joining hands with
their fellow citizens in the USA to mark such a momentous occasion”,.
The climax of this year’s World Conference is the Dinner Dance fundraiser at Maestro’s
Banquet Hall in the Bronx to mark the 30th Anniversary of Kwahuman Association of
New York. Other activities planned for the occasion, which is also a family reunion for all
