Statement from GCAO on the Flood/Fire Disaster in Accra

Statement from the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) on the Flood/Fire Disaster in Accra

As we all have heard, so many of our fellow Ghanaians lost their precious lives yesterday due to the ripple effect of the heavy rains and the subsequent inferno at the gas station

The loss of 100s of fellow Ghanaians in such raging fire is too much to comprehend and to bear.....sad and heart wrenching indeed!!

a. Some of the victims could be ....a father who went to work, closed from work waiting to catch a tro-tro and never to return his love ones!!

b. Some of the victims could be ...... mother who went to hawk few things to take care of his or her family and never to return to her love ones!!

c. Some of the victims could be civil or public servants who closed from work, took shelter for the rain to subside and never to return to their family!!

d. Some of the victims could be cab drivers who got stuck due to traffic and decided to park and never to return to their loved ones!!

e. Some of them could be a child taking a nap on her mother's lap and both of them never returning home!!

This is just a few scenarios to comprehend but let us reflect about it that way rather than just numbers

The question is what can we do? ...we might seem helpless. Our suggestion to YOU is pray in our churches, mosques and any place we worship and even in our homes for the victims and their families to grant them strength to endure this as a community. There is power in prayer to heal and calm trouble minds

As we reflect on this tragedy, we can only learn that, every day we live is a gift and we need be thankful and seek to love one another !!

May these precious innocent children of God souls rest in perfect peace!!

Peace
