US-based citizen donates to Dormaa-Akwamu schools

Dormaa-Akwamu (B/A) Jan. 27, GNA - A citizen of Dormaa-Akwamu in the Brong-Ahafo Region resident in the United States of America has presented sports equipment worth six million cedis to basic schools in the town.

The equipment comprise two silver trophies, four footballs and jerseys.

Mr. Kwasi Amponsah-Yeboah who is a disc jockey at the Chicago WHPK 88.5 FM radio station urged the people to help to tap the inherent talents of the youth for the community's rapid development.

He pledged to continue to assist the youth and urged other citizens resident abroad to contribute their widow's mite towards the welfare and development of the youth.

Mr. Augustine Ampaabeng-Kyeremeh, Dormaa District Director of Education who received the items said that, "The time has come for society to pay heed to multi-disciplinary approaches towards the identification and harnessing of hidden talents of the younger generation".

He said even though formal education remained the key to the nation's socio-economic development, it must not be lost of the fact that academically poor students could perform excellently in other fields.

In a football gala to vie for the trophies, Dormaa-Akwamu Roman Catholic Primary School defeated their Presbyterian counterparts by four goals to nil to lift the cup in the primary sector while the Dormaa-Akwamu Local Authority Junior Secondary school beat their Roman Catholic counterparts 4-2 on penalties to lift the trophy at the JSS level.
