BRONG AHAFO REGIONAL EXECUTIVES OF THE PARTY
The State of Virginia branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent a congratulatory message to the newly elected executives of the Brong Ahafo branch of the party at the just ended regional congress. The branch has therefore asked the executives to work as a team to claim all parliamentary seats in the region come the 2008 general elections. The US branch is of the view that this could be achieved through vigilance and the adoption of effective strategies during the electioneering campaigns that will precede both presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. The above observations were made during the general meeting of the branch of the NDC which was chaired by the acting president Oheneba Aboagye Damptey, a former Sunyani District Liaison Officer of the erstwhile National Mobilization Program (NMP), and past Brong Ahafo Regional Deputy Organizer of the NDC.
The acting president said the current regional party executives under the chairmanship of Mr. Agyemang and its composition underscores the battle readiness of the party for the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The entire membership of the Virginia branch of the NDC has therefore reaffirmed its commitment to the leadership of the party and has therefore called on the leader and founder of the party, and former president of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency Fight Lieutenant J.J. Rawlings, the national chairman and all other interest groups within the NDC to exercise the highest political restraint by burying all their differences in the interest of the party.
This the US based group hopes will lead to acceptance of the national executives at all levels of the party and this will ensure a sound victory for the party in the 2008 general elections. On the Peoples Representative Amendment Bill, the branch has asked the government to redirect more resources to the Electoral Commission (EC), this the branch feels will enhance the operations of the EC and also ensure an impartial and fair democratic process in the country instead of trying to solicit votes abroad. Some personalities who were at the meeting included Oppong Nkrumah, also known as Gonzoro Gonzara, a former B/A Regional Secretary of the NDC, Oscar Boadum Acheampong, former District Liaison Officer of NMP- Jaman District, Kwesi Baafi (Offinsu South constituency chairman of the NDC), and Jimmy Owusu-Kwarteng, the scribe of the branch and a former Offinsu South constituency Organizer of the NDC.
