Volta Club Celebrates 25th Anniversary & Fundraising/Kente Festival

Silver Spring, Maryland (June 30, 2009) – Volta Club, Inc, a Washington, DC metro area non-for-profit organization which draws it members mostly from Volta Region, Ghana, Togo and Benin celebrates its 25th anniversary and fundraising/kente festival on Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 6pm – 12 midnight at the Fellowship Hall of Colesville Presbyterian Church, 12800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.

The theme for the celebration is “A Sense of Identity and Our Heritage: Using our collective talents and skills to enlighten and uplift our community.” The Club plans to use the proceeds from the fundraising to open a resource center in order to support its membership and the community at large as well as students for their studies, homework assistance, computer literacy and workshop/seminars that focus on urgent issues in its community. Also the Center would design programs for summer youth camps plus a database on the history and culture of the Ewes from West Africa. Educational Fund would also be set up to assist brilliant but needy students.

On behalf of the Executive Council and entire membership, the Chairman, Mr. Edwin Agbonyitor, invites patrons of Ghana, Togo and Benin and people from Volta Region, Ghana, Togo and Benin to support the Club’s projects. Volta Ensemble, the youth wing of Volta Club would be performing different pieces of beautiful traditional dances during the evening program.
