There have been many great men of Ghana whose ambitions, contributions and hard work have made history or changed the course of it. Whether leaders are born or made, they have definitely put their mark on the world history and continue to do so. Dr. Mustapha Ahmed is indeed a true example of such dynamic, dedicated and transparent leader of Ghana. It is indeed a fact that the Ghanaian community in the Diaspora has always been left out in many occasions in terms of getting access to the real picture or information on the developmental state of our beloved home Ghana. Recently, the Hon. Member of Parliament for East Ayawaso – Nima, and now Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing represented the people of Ghana during the formal inaugural ceremony of YANKASA’s new executives in New York.
Speaking to over five hundred Ghanaians particularly the Muslim community, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed stated and explained the state of development in Ghana and what the Mills and the NDC administration is doing to better the lives of Ghanaians at all levels. Some of these successes that he mentioned included, the introduction of the Single Spine Salary and its implementation, the integration of Ghana revenue agencies, which translate into greater efficiency in revenue collection, the provision of free school uniforms and schools books to students to ensure that no child in under any circumstance is deprived of quality education, an Expansion of School Feeding Programme, a rehabilitation of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, provision of housing to the Ghana security service through the STX project, improving the water supply in Ghana among others. The Hon. Minister restated the president’s call for Ghanaians in the Diaspora to return home to participate in the developmental process.
Whilst in New York, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed took time to meet the newly elected executive of the National Democratic Congress, NY Chapter. The MP congratulated the new executives on their election success and called for hard work towards strengthening the party and galvanizing support for the party. He briefed the NDC NY leadership on the developments in his constituency, East Ayawaso which includes initiatives to end the bad drainage system, support for education, improving the supply of water among others. During the meeting, the chairman, Alhaji Abass A. Adamu congratulated the NDC Administration led by Prof John E. A. Mills for the extraordinary work being done to give Ghanaians better standard of life. He again congratulated the leadership of the NDC in Ghana for building a stronger partnership among the high level party members and encouraged the MP and other members of the party in parliament to continue to represent their constituencies with dignity in other to help the party win the 2012 election. Dr. Mustapha Ahmed also met some other Ghanaians groups including Alhaji Abdulai Clay, the Nima Chief and leadership of New York to keep them updated with state of developments and the plans for the future particularly in the East Ayawaso constituency. He also gave them an opportunity to make recommendations towards the future actions plans for the area.
