One of the landmark events at the recently held Retreat of the Fellowship of Ghana Methodist Churches in North America was the official launch of the Methodist Herald for Builders (M.H.B.) and the Church’s website whose address is www.ghanamethodistsinamerica.org.
The short but colorful ceremony formed part of the Revival Night held for Delegates of the Retreat. Emceed by the Rev. Nathan Addo Nartey, Minister in charge of the Ghana Calvary Methodist Church, New Jersey, the opening prayer was said by Rev Emmanuel Boakye-Yiadom of the Ghana Mission United Methodist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina. Brother Nana Dankwa of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Hyattsville, Maryland launched the appeal. Osofomaame Georgina Bonful of Calvary Redeeming Methodist Church, Rockville, Maryland unveiled the Newspaper and website to the applause of the Clergy and Laity present.
Giving a brief history, Brother Baffour Amoateng, a member of the Editorial. Board and Society Steward of Calvary Redeeming Methodist Church, Rockville, Maryland, revealed that his encounter with certain news media during the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Calvary Redeeming Methodist Church, Rockville, Maryland convinced him that the Methodist Church Ghana North America needed to have its own mouthpiece. He thus spoke to Editors, Joseph and Karen Essiful-Ansah and encouraged them to try their hands at something small. The said couple agreed and began working towards the goal of launching it at the retreat. In addition, Brother Amoateng said the Editors began working on a website which has also come to fruition. He thanked God for the lives of the couple and thanked all who have helped make the two new media a reality by God’s grace.
In an Interview the Editors revealed that the two ‘babes’ of the Methodist Church Ghana North America were initially considered a Lay Movement project hence the name Methodist Herald for Builders an inference from the Lay Movement Motto:”I will Build my Church”. They encouraged members to support the project with their prayers, by providing articles, stories etc. and giving feedback to the Editorial Board since the two news media belong to all members of the Methodist Church Ghana North America. They also stressed that the main object of the Editorial Board is to preach Christ crucified declaring, “This is a vehicle for evangelism and it will stay so”. Other members of the Board are Brother Fred Poku Bonsu who is in charge of the Canada Bureau and Sis Vivian Acquah who is in charge of Sales and Circulation. Brother Baffour Amoateng is in charge of Advertising.
As part of the official Launch all members of the Methodist Church Ghana North America are to receive free copies of the Newspaper. Both Newspaper and website have a wide range of columns both spiritual and social. Delegates interviewed indicated that they were happy and pleasantly surprised as they never dreamed such a thing could a reality.
