Start preparing for a summer getaway with your friends and family to Chicago. The “Windy City” will be thrown into a historic cultural frenzy on Memorial Day weekend, May 24 to 25. . On this weekend that you will definitely not want to miss, the Asanteman Association here coronate and swear-in their New Chiefs and Queen Mothers with pomp and pageantry. This is a big, and an unadulterated cultural exposition that occurs once in a century and you cannot afford to miss out on it.
As part of events to earmark the CORONATION & OATH SWEARING-IN ceremonies of His Majesty, Nana Addai Baffour (Asantefuohene), Her Royal Highness, Nana Abena Amponsah “Nyankronpon” (Asantefuohemaa) and their 15 Sub-Chiefs which is scheduled to take place on Memorial Day weekend, the Marketing Committee of the Asanteman Association of Chicago & Midwest (AACM), USA, would like you to mark your calendar for this colorful and exclusive cultural extravaganza.
This spectacular event will showcase the rich and unique Asante culture, specifically in installing new chiefs. It is expected to be witnessed by thousands of Chicagoans and visitors from all around the world, notably Canada, Ghana, U.K. and the United States. The 2-day event is scheduled as follow:
OATH SWEARING-IN OF ASANTEFUOHENE, ASANTEFUOHEMAA & 15 SUB-CHIEFS
Will be held on: Saturday, May 24, 2008, from 9:00 P.M to 3:00 AAM CST at the Luxurious Grand Ball Room, 6351 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, IL 60637. The celebrations continue the next day, May 25, 2008 with a fashionable Kente Dance and Live Cultural show from 9:00 P.M to 3:00 A.M at the same venue.
Invited guests and special dignitaries to witness the occasion include Hon. S. K. Boafo, Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture Affairs, Nana Adusei Ampem Twenewa II (Tepahene & Representative of Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of Ashanti Kingdom in Ghana. Others are Asante Chiefs and Queen Mothers in United States, Canada and Europe. Also, His Excellency, John Agyekum Kufour, President of the Republic of Ghana is invited.
KROBEA ASANTE KOTOKO, a one-time colorful magazine, will feature the good works of Asanteman Association of Chicago and Midwest, USA, as well as some important historical background and cultures of the Asante people of Ghana to commemorate this special event.
