The Deputy Minister of Information, Hon Pius Enam Hadzide on July 31, 2019 paid a working visit to the Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations, Mrs Martha Pobee and also conveyed the appreciation of the ministry to the mission and recognized how the efforts of the Mission complements the entire government machinery.
The Deputy Minister was the Special Guest of Honor at the Ghana Festival in Chicago, US, an event organized by the Ghana National Council of Chicago, which started on July 26 and ended on July 29, 2019.
GhanaFest is the biggest showcase of Ghanaian culture, music, food, art and fashion in the Midwest of the United States. Every year over 5000 people across the world participate in this event.
Hon. Pius Hadzide in the meeting with the Ambassador recognized the wonderful work being done by the Mission, especially in the area of Safety and Protection of Journalists in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals 16.10.1, that is, " Ensuring public access to information and protecting fundamental freedoms; in accordance with national legislation and international agreement".
He was happy that Ghana through the Mission, has joined the Group of Friends on the Safety of Journalists and indicated that this further illustrates the NPP administration’s commitment to press freedom. “Your Excellency, I commend you for working with us to get Ghana into the Group of Friends, and I also like to inform you that back home, we have just finished a stakeholder consultation on the creation of a national coordinating mechanism on the safety of journalists,” he added.
Her Excellency, Mrs Pobee also expressed delight in the Information Section of the Mission for its attempt to promote and project the activities of the Mission."In the wake of all these negativities it's important to let Ghanaians know what we do here as a Mission to the UN, the Ambassador remarked.
She was was in full support of the Information Section's "Diaries", an initiative that engages delegates from Ghana to the United Nations on their experiences and expectations.
They both agreed to establish what they referred to as "The PR Project of UNGA" to ensure that all activities of the UN General Assembly are publicly amplified.
