Defeated General Secretary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has said he will still work hard to ensure victory for the party in the 2020 general elections in spite of his loss.

Mr Anyidoho was defeated by Mr Johnson Asideu Nketia in the just-ended 9th National Delegates Congress at the International Trade Fair Centre on Saturday, 17 November.

Mr Nketia, a three-time former MP for Wenchi West Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, from 1993 to 2000, who was first elected as General Secretary in 2008, polled 6,644 while Mr Anyidoho could only manage 1,655 votes.

In his concession speech minutes after the declaration of the result by officials of the Electoral Commission, Mr Anyidoho said: “Party first. It had to come to an end and it has come to an end. The delegates spoke and the Electoral Commission declared results and we have no option.

“In the name of the party, the supremacy of the party, I wish to say that we accept the results declared by the Electoral Commission.

“It is the victory we are looking for in 2020, and we are still committed to the fight. We will still be with the party, we shall work with the party and work hard. We need to find a strong horse for 2020 and that strong horse is a strong party, we are committed to a strong party.”
