Dr. Mahama’s ambassadorial appointment is a demotion - Ayariga

The flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga has likened the position assigned to Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama by President Nana Akufo-Addo as a demotion.

Dr. Ayariga is of the conviction that the position reduces the PNC 2016 flagbearer to an “errand boy” because he contested the 2016 elections alongside President Akufo-Addo.

“Can you imagine you contesting an election with somebody and the person loses and makes you an errand person? It’s way too low and I see it as a demotion,” he observed.

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday July 10, 2017, released his second batch of Ambassadorial posting and appointed Dr. Edward Mahama to the position of Ambassador-At-Large.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has accused their leader, Dr. Mahama, of betraying the party by accepting a position in the Nana Addo-led government without informing the party.

Commenting on the issue on the Gold Power Drive with host Samuel Eshun Tuesday, Dr. Hassan Ayariga said “the President is trying to practice an all inclusive governance concept and by so doing maybe he had favours from Edward Mahama in the last election….”

“…Maybe they were good friends or maybe they have some relationships and for that reason he is giving the PNC the position of Ambassador -At-Large.”

He said Dr. Mahama was the first person to congratulate Nana Addo when the 2016 elections results of some constituencies started trickling in suggesting that the move could have been a strategy by Dr. Mahama to gain recognition.

The PNC in the run-up to the 2016 elections allegedly received GHC 1million from the then opposition NPP to assist its campaign.

This Ayariga believes explains the appointment of Dr. Edward Mahama in the NPP government as Ambassador-At-Large.
