Ex-president Mahama’s special aide, Mrs Joyce Bawah Mogtari has described the challenge from President Akufo-Addo to former president, John Mahama on the galamsey menace as ridiculous and disingenuous.

During an interview on Metro TV’s Evening News, Lawyer Joyce Bawah Mogtari questioned the president on why he is calling on John Mahama to sign a pact on the fight against galamsey.

According to Joyce Bawah, John Mahama has already pledged to outline some steps to curb the ongoing illegal mining when voted into power.

“Why is Nana Addo calling on John Mahama to sign a pact? What pact? Whose vintage is he asking for us to serve? On what basis? What right will he have to send a pact to our office to our flagbearer? On his failed attempt to fight galamsey? Or his failed or abysmal attempt to equalize.”

“John Mahama is a man who walks his talk” Joyce Bawh-Mogtari emphasised that Mahama has pledged to outline and put out his plans for mining in Ghana and also audit every mining concession in Ghana and also eliminate concessions of miners who have been given permission to mine in and around forest reserves and also near waterbodies”.

She further disclosed that the flagbearer of the opposition has also disclosed that he will prevent new licenses from being issued.

While reacting to the recent call by Akufo-Addo to John Mahama to declare his stance on galamsey, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said; “Ridiculous, totally dishonest and disingenuous Nana Akufo-Addo no longer enjoys any level of credibility or trust. Ghanaians have realised that the only reason why Nana Addo wanted to be president was to Lord over us, and behave with utmost impunity and disrespect. Mr Mahama unlike Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia uses his platform to castigate, disrespect or spew any venom on his political opponent”

Joyce Bawah berated the ruling government for issuing over one thousand licenses to miners to mine.

She disclosed that the former CEO of the Forestry Services Commission bequeath mining concessions at protected forest areas to his family. She slammed the President for refusing to recall or reverse the immoral and illegal bequest by the former commissioner.
