The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has stated that Ghanaians made a grave mistake by not granting Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP the opportunity to continue the legacy of former President John Agyekum Kufuor after the 2008 elections.

Speaking at a meeting of professionals in Kumasi, which President Akufo-Addo and other NPP stalwarts attended, Chairman Wontumi expressed regret over the outcome of the 2008 elections, emphasising that it was an error that should not be repeated in 2024.

“Ghanaians made a big mistake in 2008 during the elections. There was no reason to vote for the NDC; power should have been given to Nana Addo and the NPP to continue the good deeds of former President Kufuor,” he remarked.

Chairman Wontumi criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that they often dismantle the progress made by the NPP. “Anytime the NPP builds a solid foundation, the NDC comes in and destroys it. We must not repeat the mistake of 2008 again,” he stated.

He further highlighted the achievements of the NPP under President Akufo-Addo and called for the party to remain in power under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership come 2025. “The NPP and Nana have delivered, and we deserve to be in power with a Bawumia leadership in 2025,” he added.

The event brought together professionals from various fields in the Ashanti Region. It was organised to express gratitude for their support to the president and the NPP during his tenure from 2017 to date.
