Former President and Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to end the “horror movie” they have been living through under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the past eight years.

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama hosted a Governance Forum on Thursday, October 31st from 6.00 pm. The Forum, which took place on the #MahamaConversations platform, was themed ‘Resetting Ghana for Good Governance and Accountability”.

Mahama believes the governance of our dear country Ghana is at a crossroads with injustice eating our society away as our economy inflicts untold hardships on the millions of suffering Ghanaians.

The NDC leader expanded on his initiatives to enhance accountability including his plan to establish a Governance Advisory Council to improve political governance, help curb corruption, and ensure respect for human rights. The Forum was aired on television, radio, and online, including all the social media handles of John Mahama.

Speaking at the forum, Mahama highlighted his disappointment at the current NPP government’s failure to protect the public purse, labelling their promise to protect the public purse as a “hollow promise”. He further urged Ghanaians to put an end to this “horror movie” by voting the current government out of power. He also cited that the insatiable greed of the government’s appointees is what has brought adverse effects such as corruption, violation of human rights, and unfair detention of citizens, among others.

“Ghanaians must end this ‘horror movie’ they have been subjected to over the last eight years. The pledge to protect the public purse was a hollow promise. Indeed, as some people say humorously, they have not only emptied the public purse; they have stolen the purse itself.

The insatiable greed of this administration’s appointees has not even spared the environment, including our water bodies and forest reserves. Their catastrophic failure has not only led to an upsurge in corruption but also to disrespect for citizens’ freedoms and rights, the high-handed throwing of citizens into remand custody, and the deprivation of them of food and medical care,” he stated.

He further stated that the current government lacked integrity, transparency, and accountability and has failed to own up to the hardships it has foisted on our society.
