Charles Asiedu, Member of Parliament for Tano South and son of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has suggested that New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, who form the minority in Parliament, shouldn’t be allowed into the chamber but rather sit home and watch proceedings on television.

According to him, the NDC has now secured two-thirds of the house, in addition to four independent candidates out of the 276 parliamentarians, which will require minimal contribution from the minority MPs in government business.

Speaking on a panel discussion on TV XYZ on January 10, 2025, he accused the minority leader of parliament, Afenyo-Markin, of aiming to see the NDC government under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama fail due to his recent comments on Mahama’s ministerial appointments.

“Now, how Parliament has become, if it was left to me, all of us have to agree so that we make the minority sit home and watch us on TV. So that we can give them one-third of their salary to buy data and watch us on TV because, as of now, all the four independent MPs have agreed to work with the NDC: Wulensi, Afram Plains North, Gomoa Central, and Asante Akim North.

“So, we should divide their salaries and give them something small to sit home and watch us on TV because if you want the betterment of the government, would you have said that he is selecting his ministers in bits and pieces?” he said.

Afenyo-Markin recently mocked Mahama for nominating his ministers in bits, referring to three nominees out of 60 as "tot."
