The Kumasi NPP Parliamentary Bloc has blamed the numerous challenges facing the city of Kumasi on poor management and ineffective governance structures.
According to them, there is a need for a significant overhaul in the city's management to create a conducive environment for both businesses and residents to thrive, free from the constraints of partisan interests.
Francis Asenso-Boakye, Chairman of the Bloc, attributed the recent devastating fire outbreak in Adum to poor city management.
He made this statement while speaking at a forum organized by the caucus as part of its outreach program to educate the public on current parliamentary matters.
Among the issues discussed were the 2025 budget and other concerns of public interest.
Asenso-Boakye emphasized that Kumasi, as Ghana’s second-largest city, deserves a better governance mechanism and more effective measures to address the challenges residents face.
He stressed the need for city managers to work together in unison, prioritizing the welfare of the people over political interests to prevent the recurrence of such devastating disasters.
Asenso-Boakye, who is the NPP MP for Bantama, stated that members of the caucus and the NPP party are fully committed to addressing Kumasi's pressing challenges.
As an example, he cited a recent visit by caucus members to Suame Magazine to sympathize with victims of a recent fire outbreak in the largest automobile repair enclave in West Africa.
He said the Bloc is playing a significant role in improving the overall quality of life for individuals in the city.
The MPs also raised concerns about how the budget would directly impact the people of Kumasi, questioning whether the allocations would adequately address the city’s needs, particularly in terms of infrastructure, emergency response measures, and disaster prevention.
