Dr. Eric Bempong, a lecturer at KAAF University, has stated that the political career of the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, may come to an end due to his recent legal issues with investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
According to the lecturer, Kennedy Agyapong played a key role in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) election victory through a series of exposés against the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
The ruling by a U.S. court mandating him to pay $18 million to Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a defamation case has put his political future at risk and may damage his career.
He explained that people may begin to question the accuracy of his previous statements, which could affect his credibility and influence.
In an interview on Oyerepa TV on March 20, 2025, Dr. Bempong stated, "Kennedy Agyapong played a key role in the NPP election victory with his revelations against the then-government.
"And looking at the jury's decision, an eight-member jury voting against you means a lot. It suggests that all you said wasn't true. I hope he appeals and overturns the case. When he had the dispute with Anas, I realized then that it might lead to an early end to his political career."
An Essex County jury has awarded Anas Aremeyaw Anas $18 million in his defamation suit against Kennedy Agyapong.
