Veteran Ghanaian comedian and media personality Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has blasted the New Patriotic Party vice presidential candidate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, for making controversial remarks that he believes could incite religious conflict.
In a video making waves on social media, NAPO, while addressing NPP party supporters, indicated that Muslims voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ‘haram’, citing Islamic principles as the basis for his statement.
According to him, Muslims should prioritize their faith when making political decisions, implying that voting for NDC would go against Islamic teachings.
Dr. Prempeh stated, “Muslims should not vote for NDC because it goes against Islamic teachings.”
Reacting to this in a submission on his YouTube channel, KSM expressed his dismay over NAPO's comments.
KSM condemned the remarks as "immature" and "stupid," arguing that they were an attempt to fan the flames of religious division.
“What nonsense. What immaturity. This is immaturity that borders on stupidity. He was simply fanning the flames of religious conflict. How does a vice presidential candidate, supposedly educated, stand in front of Muslims and tell them that when you make a certain political choice, you have violated the rules of the Quran?
“It is stupid, and I will say it. And I don't care whose agenda you think I'm advancing, it is stupid."
KSM called for national cohesion and urged political figures to avoid making divisive statements that could harm Ghana's unity.
“You cannot get on a platform for political reasons and agitate Muslims against Christians or vice versa. It is stupid. It is not in the interest of Ghana. It is not even in the interest of whoever is saying that it is wrong. And when we do wrong things like this, we should all keep quiet and watch it? Why?
“Look, we have gotten to the stage in our development where we are looking for things to be done right. And that's it. Whether you like it or not, we want things to be done right. And so long as I sit here, if things are going wrong, I will say it. And I don't give a hell about whatever you accuse me of,” he said.
