26 year old herdsman to spend nine years in jail for robbery

Tema, Jan. 17, GNA - The transfer of a Police Officer from Tema to Ho for allowing a convicted person to escape from lawful hands has however, helped to redeem his image as he spotted the convict at his new station and was re-arrested to face the law. Subsequently, Abubakari Musah Fulani , a 26 year old herdsman, who had been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for robbery by a Tema Circuit tribunal in 1999 would now spend his next nine years in jail.

The prosecution told the Tema Circuit Court "B" on Thursday that Fulani, together with an accomplice who were under escort of Detective Augustus Amoh in a taxi cap to begin their jail term took advantage of the red traffic light at Ashaiman and escaped with the handcuffs on their hands. The prosecutor said the accomplice managed to escape after fruitless efforts to get him while Fulani was apprehended after a hot chase.

As a result of the incident the police investigator was reverted from the CID to a uniformed police and was transferred to Ho where he had being at post until he spotted Fulani in town on Tuesday, January six, this month and raised an alarm for his re-arrest. The sentences to are run concurrently.
