CEO of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng’s appearance on radio this past week has revealed a lot about the millionaire.

Mr. Amoabeng successfully established UT Bank Ghana Limited, which commenced business as a Finance House in 1997 and evolved from a lending company to a Universal Bank.

Here're three things we learnt about the UT boss in an interveiw he had with Nii Arday Clegg on Starr FM.

He Does Not Believe In Heaven OR Hell

According to him, the logic behind the concept of the afterlife appears too difficult for him to accept.

“I believe in God, I believe there is a creator; if you don’t like, call it nature but for me as a Christian, it’s God… I go to church once in a long while, when there is a wedding or a funeral. I don’t believe in the afterlife, I believe that you have to do what is right and that your heaven and earth is here, I don’t think there is anything anywhere,”

You are not allowed to fall in love with a co-worker if you work for him

In the same interview Mr. Amoabeng said an unfortunate practice in Ghana is one where CEO’s and other people in authority sleep with those below them for favors.

According to him, even though most of these guys are married, they carry out the despicable acts anyway.

“Do you know that in Ghana, it is almost a norm that a lot of MDs decide that they would sleep with somebody, staff and if the person wants to keep their job, how can they tell their MD or their immediate boss that I won’t allow you?… And some of them are married but they still take advantage of these things, I don’t want to see any of these things,” he told Nii Arday Clegg.

He added that he made it a policy not to condone such acts at his institution. Infact, even two people cannot be in a relationship and work for him, one of them has to go.

“I find that African men, especially tend to exploit the younger female either to get a job, to get promotion or to be appraised or things like that so I don’t encourage it and therefore there is a policy at UT that you don’t have relationships in the company.

“And I have sacked people for going contrary to that…you cannot start a relationship with another staff, if you think you are falling in love with someone then one would have to leave.” he sternly concluded.

He does not pay tithes and will never do

Speaking to Starr FM on Friday morning, Prince Kofi Amoabeng said he believes in God and goes to Church “once in a long while if there is a wedding or funeral,” but he is not a tither.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng said: “I don’t pay tithe. I would not give 10 percent and nobody can force me to give 10 percent of my money to anybody. So I don’t pay tithe. I do all sort of philanthropic jobs myself. I see where there is the need for me to help and I help.”

He continued, “I don’t have to give it to somebody who then decides where to put the money. So it is my hard earned money and I should put it where I want to put it.”

He owns only one shoe

However, one thing he said which may have shocked Ghanaians most is his indication that he owns just a pair of shoes. Yes, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the multi-millionaire, owns just one shoe.

According to him, materials things do not matter to him.

“To me those things don’t matter, the same shoe, very comfortable. When I think it’s getting a bit too old I enter a shop, I pick a new one and leave the old one. You would want your feet to be comfortable.

I work to build institutions and establishments that help others and if money comes as a result, fine. And it’s not even a big deal for me. I have only one wrist watch too, a gift from my partner, so the Rolex’s and all those things don’t mean anything to me,” he said.


Prince Kofi Amoabeng is the current Chief Executive Officer Of UT Bank and will become the president of the UT Group of Companies after 2015.
