The 5th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) annual calendar of programmes has been unveiled by the African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with government of the Republic of Ghana, and the International Committee of AFRIMA at a world media event and music conference.
The event which took place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra was highly attended by past nominees, winners and executives of AFRIMA.
Music professionals including Ghana’s Becca, Fancy Gadam, Richie Mensah, Nigeria’s 2Face Idibia, Falz the Badh Guy, Seyi Shay, Emtee from South Africa, Kenya’s Victoria Kimani, Ahmed Soultan of Morocco, Stanley Enow from Cameroon Zeynab from Benin were also in attendance.
Commenting on the event in line with government’s objective to develop a sustainable tourism pivoted on Ghanaian arts and culture, Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku said, “This 5th AFRIMA world calendar unveiling in Ghana is a testament of a dynamism and tenacity of staff at my Ministry, and Ghana can tell it’s story through music, arts, culture and heritage.”
The Minister added that, “Music is a powerful instrument to tell our story, we can use music as a weapon to transform our economies. Our stories must be told and AFRIMA will serve as a greater platform that can effectively disseminate our arts and culture to the world. Government of Ghana is motivated by the need to harness the potential of the creative sector of Ghana to promote national and regional tourism.”
She further lauded the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and government for hosting the reputable event in Accra with an optimum hospitality.
Angela Martins, Head of Culture, African Union Commission (AUC) unveiled the built up events for the 5th AFRIMA rolling out the 2018 calendar under the theme “Africa is Music”.
The calendar features back-to-back events traversing several countries in the five regions of Africa. Some of these planned events include music/culture conferences; country visits to converse with critical music/culture industry.
Music professionals present at the event were also engaged in a panel discussion to exchange views about the challenges which they encountered at the beginning of their music career and how the journey so far has been for them in staying relevant in the music industry.
