65-year-old man allegedly defiles primary school girls

Ho, May 18, GNA - The Hohoe Police last week arrested a Night Watchman, Kwame Abdulai, 65 for allegedly defiling three Primary School girls in his room.

Mr Abass Azumah, Hohoe District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday that Abdulai defiled the girls, aged between 10 and 12 years and gave them 5,000 cedis each.

Mr Azumah said two persons who were mentioned by the victims as accomplices had also been arrested.

They are Vincent Dagani, 47, a farmer at Gbi-Abanse, and Paul Nyamalemah, 37, also a farmer, while a third person described by the Police as a corn miller operator is on the run.

The Police Commander said a "good Samaritan" saw one of the victims emerge from Abdulai's room walking with difficulty and suspecting foul play, led the girls to the Police station.

Mr Azumah said the victims alleged that Abdulai, who had only a bed and a chair in his room, had sex with them while others sat in the only chair in the room waiting for their turn.

He said the girls mentioned others who had been defiling them during interrogation.

Mr Azumah said the girls complained of poor parental care, adding that they were given only 500 cedis each by their parents to fend for themselves from the morning to the evening.

However, he said, the parents of the victims has been calling on the Police to withdraw the case to enable them settle it at home. Mr Azumah said the suspects would be put before court after investigations and called on the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police (WAJU) to come to the aid of the girls.
