A Fulani herdsman shot dead on Afram Lake

Nkawkaw, March 31, GNA - A 20-year-old Fulani herdsman, Osumanu Aliu, had been shot dead in a boat on the Afram Lake between Simpoa and Anyinasu in the Kwahu South District. The body has been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital mortuary at Atibie for autopsy.

According to Nkawkaw police source, on March 25, this year, Aliu and seven others were travelling in a boat from Simpoa to Anyinasu village when they were attacked by some armed persons also in another boat on the lake. The Police source said in the course of the voyage, the assailants got closer and ordered Aliu to disembark from his boat and join theirs but when he refused, they began to beat him with paddles and when he became weak they dragged him into their boat. The source said Aliu was dropped into the water and shot three times, killing him instantly.

In another development, at about 11.30 p.m. on the same day, a 15-year-old Fulani herdsman, Abdulai Aliu, was also shot by unknown assailants around his kraal also at Anyinasu village. According to the police, Abdulai was rushed to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for treatment but was later referred to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for the removal of a number of pellets from his body.
