Legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has declared himself a celebrity lawyer among his colleague learned friends.
“I’m a celebrity lawyer! You can’t take it away from me.”
Lawyer Ampaw who sued controversial hiplife musician, Kwame Asare Obeng also known as A-Plus, for defamation, has withdrawn the case ahead of its second hearing date on November 14.
The lawyer explained he took the decision after meeting the ‘Yekeka singer and finding out he meant no malice by his actions.
He sued the musician for 1 million Ghana Cedis after the singer wrote a letter on his Facebook wall referring to the lawyer as “dumb”. He also criticised the lawyer for failing to disclose the whereabouts of Castro and Janet Bandu after making claims he knew where the two missing people were hiding.
Speaking to the media after announcing their decision to settle out of court, Ampaw declared the case has actually made him more popular than he was before.
“I believe in destiny and I think that, A-plus and I have never had this issue, I’ve never met him one on one. But how come that A-plus came into my life. True. At the end of the day A-PLUS IS VERY POPULAR BEFORE lawyer Ampaw came onto the scene. This man is going to sell me more in fact, the story has taken me far.”
He, however, argued against assertions that the lawsuit was only a publicity stunt from the beginning.
“I have a problem with those who say I sued for publicity. Suing someone is not about publicity. I have problems with people talking about publicity, as I sit here I don’t need publicity.”
