Kumawood actress Awo Yaa has opened up about her harrowing experiences with alcoholism and spiritual attacks, shedding light on the darker side of the Kumawood movie industry.
In an interview with Emelia Brobbery, Awo Yaa detailed how voodooism and enmity within the industry contributed to her struggles with alcohol and her absence from Kumwood.
Awo Yaa revealed that she became a habitual drunkard, often craving alcohol as early as 5:30 am.
This addiction, which she believes was exacerbated by spiritual attacks, made her hyper and quick-tempered, leading to conflicts with others.
Despite seeking help from numerous so-called men of God, she found no relief and spent tens of thousands of cedis in the process.
“There was a time when someone drank alcohol at the funeral and died from alcohol poisoning. People thought it was me. It was at that point that someone told me to be careful of those who call me to go and drink with them,” he said.
Her turning point came when her friend, Micheal Afranie, intervened.
She further revealed how her mother had taken her to a church and the pastor revealed that a friend had used juju against her, causing her to miss many opportunities including a chance to go abroad.
“He told me that many of my issues were spiritual and were caused by a friend who had used juju on me,” she said.
Awo Yaa has been sober for 10 years now.
