Renowned gospel artist and preacher Sonnie Badu shared his thoughts on the ongoing discussions about Ghana’s National Cathedral.

During an interview on Takoradi’s Empire FM’s weekly show, ShowBiz Today, he stressed that if President Akufo-Addo made a personal vow to God to build the cathedral, it is crucial for him to fulfill that promise. Badu referenced biblical examples, explaining that those who made vows to God in the Bible made sure to honor them.

“If he made a vow to God, then he must honor it, and that is a personal matter between him and God,” Badu stated. He further expressed concerns about involving the entire population in fulfilling a vow made by one person, asserting that personal vows should be fulfilled individually, not collectively. This, he believes, may be the source of the confusion and opposition to the project.

Although he acknowledged the potential importance of a national place of worship, like mosques built by the Muslim community, Badu emphasized that the vow’s personal nature is central to the issue. He told Feeling Daddy, “The reason for the problems and confusion is that it wasn’t a collective vow.”
