Aspiring Actors' Guild president, Abeiku Sagoe, has vindicated Veteran actor William Addo aka Akpatse
It would be recalled that, the veteran actor, William Addo told www.razzonline.com that his inability to raise funds for his glaucoma and cataract surgery was because movie producers have used actors royalties to build big mansions in Kumasi.
Akpatse, was heavily criticized by movie producer Frank Fiifi Gharbin for making such an allegation about movie producers. Gharbin then accused Abeiku Sagoe of being the one responsible for royalties meant for the actors.
To ascertain the truth, Ebenezer Anderson aka Dr.Who, host of 'Hot and Classic Showbiz review' on Accra-based Hot Fm, went up-close with Abeiku Sagoe.
Deliberating on the issue, Abeiku Sagoe debunked Frank Gharbin's allegations and indicated emphatically that, movie producers are the reason why Ghanaian actors are poor.
"What is Frank Gharbin saying? He is only spreading falsehood. It's not true that I have made actors poor. Actually, the movie producers are the reason why actors can't pay their childrens' school fees.
"William Addo has acted throughout his life time but can't boast of a single house. Ask Frank Gharbin the number of houses he and his colleague producers have. They've built big mansions and driving big cars with monies meant for actors.
"So please if William Addo is saying the movie producers have made him poor he is right" Abeiku Sagoe noted passionately.
According to Mr Sagoe, previously, levies were shared among movie producers. But together with the help of late ex-president of the guild, Nii Odoi Mensah, the movie producers have agreed that the 20% levy meant for actors in 2016 would be given to actors.
Abeiku Sagoe, concluded that actors problems pertaining to their royalties or money should be channeled through the movie producers but not him, thus, he will re-brand the Ghana Actors Guild and put in place more measures for an effective welfare system should he be voted president.
