Accra records low-keyed Valentine

Accra Feb. 15 GNA - This year's Valentine's Day celebration received low patronage as compared to previous years when numerous advertisements were made in the media to hype the event. The FM stations were also not busy with the usual curtain raiser stories and interviews they carried to whip up interests in the event. Only few people were seen dressed in the usual red apparel typical of every February 14.

In place of the cupid messages associated with the day there was sustainable campaign against sexual promiscuity on the day by religious and other interest groups.

One of such groups was the Holy Ghost Revival Assemblies of God Church where the Youth Leader, Mr Theophilus Mensah asked the youth to redirect the Valentine Day's celebration to the show of love and care for the needy.

He said the youth must not engage in promiscuous activities that would hamper their physical and spiritual development. Mr Mensah was speaking at a Valentine's Day talk show organized for the youth of the Church to redirect their purpose of the celebration to communal service.

Speaking on the theme: "How Should the Christian Celebrate Valentine", he said Christians could make a significant change in the celebration only if the Day was directed into activities that would help their families and communities.

A survey by the GNA, at drinking and other entertainment spots such as Southern Kitchen Restaurant, Romanza and Shilo Joan in Accra, revealed low patronage of the event.
