Actor jailed 10 years for defilement

Samuel Owusu, a 22-year-old actor, who defiled a 14 year-old primary five pupil of Effutu M/A Primary School in the Central Region was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment by a Circuit Court at Cape Coast.

Owusu had threatened girl that the gods will kill her should she disclose the act to anyone.

Owusu alias Nyankomago, a member of Pompi Dede Concert Party Band, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by Mr Tom Bentil that on May 30, Owusu's group went to Effutu in the Cape Coast Municipality to perform and the victim was among those who attended.

At about 23:30 hours the victim decided to go back home after watching the show for sometime.

When she got to the main gate of the concert hall, which was being manned by Owusu, he called her and asked her to go and buy him some bread.

When she was about to move away, Owusu grabbed her and carried her on his shoulders into a bush about 450 metres away from the concert hall, put her on the ground, tore her dress and panties and defiled her.

Chief inspector Amonoo said after the act Owusu warned her not to tell anybody or else she would be killed by the gods and then left her alone in the bush but she managed to get home.

He said the victim reported her ordeal to her mother, who reported the case to the Police for Owusu’s arrest.
