Adjetey Anang solicits for votes for Ghanaian AMVCAs nominees

Popular Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang is calling for support for Ghanaian actors/actresses who have been nominated for the 2015 edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs) scheduled for March in Lagos.

According to the man who is popularly known as Pusher from rested hit TV series, Things We Do For Love, it is important for Ghanaian actors/actresses to win at the continental awards ceremony because it would boost the image of the country globally.

“I am using this platform to get in touch with the media to also throw its weight behind us so that it takes a national kind of dimension. I think that if one of us wins, it strengthens our image on the continent and globally,” Adjetey told NEWS-ONE when he spoke about this year’s AMVCAs nominations and his career.

Adjetey was the only Ghanaian actor who was nominated for this year’s awards alongside actresses Lydia Forson, Joselyn Dumas, Shirley Frimpong-Manso and Zynnell Lydia Zuh. He has been nominated for Best Actor In Drama and is competing with Nollywood’s fine actors Gideon Okeke, OC Ukeje, IK Ogbonna, Mike Ezuruonye and Wole Ojo.

The AMVCAs, which is aimed at celebrating the contributions of African filmmakers, actors and others, is strictly a public vote awards ceremony which allows the public to decide who wins what.

Though Adjetey has said nomination alone technically makes them winners, there is no way the country’s actor and actresses will triumph or represent the country very well as ambassadors except they get support from Ghanaian movie fans through their votes.

“It was exciting to be nominated for AMVCAs. I am still in the excited mood. I remember I screamed wow when I heard I was nominated. I saw my good pals OC Ukeje, Gideon Okeke and others in the same category with me. I think they are all great actors. I have admired OC for a long time. Gideon is a brilliant actor as well. I think I am in the midst of giants, and being recognised as one, technically, I am a winner already.

Only one person will win at the end and I leave that to the fans out there to decide.

“Well I am not a social media guru but I am doing my best. I am further using this platform to get in touch with the media to also throw their weight behind us so that it takes a national kind of thing. I think that if one of us wins, it strengthens our image on the continent and globally.

Also Africa, I need your vote this time. I worked hard and I try to make sure my act is what will make you sit back comfortably and be satisfied with what I produce. I humbly ask for your vote for the March event,” Adjetey added.

Voting for winners of the various awards categories is currently ongoing on Africa Magic website and hopes are that the Ghanaian nominees will score high marks and win.

The 2014 edition of the AMVCAs saw Ghana pick up some of the best awards with actress Yvonne Okoro’s movie, The Contract. This year’s nominees are expected to repeat the feat.
