Ghana’s 15-year-old Abraham Attah won Best Male Lead for ‘Beasts Of No Nation’, for his first role ever, at the 2016 Independent Spirits Awards. This award, many popular actors and actresses in Ghana haven’t even had dreams of taking. He also presented an award at the Oscars.
On taking the award, the smiling first-time performer thanked everyone from his fellow winner and co-star Idris Elba to the Netflix film’s director, Cary Fukunaga, to the costume designers when he took the stage.
However, instead of his achievement making big headlines in Ghana, many rather took to Twitter to make fun of his accent used in his speech, while up on stage.
Some however defended him, including Ghanaian actress Afia Schwarzenegger.
Read the tweets and Schwarzenegger's defense message below:
Abraham Attah needs some pure English grooming. Else he won't last properly.
