Aggrey Memorial School retains first position in drama

Cape Coast, Oct 26, GNA - Aggrey Memorial Zion secondary school, retained its position for the second time running, as the best performing school in theatre, when it chalked 211 points during the Central Regional Students Drama Festival (STUDRAFEST) at Cape Coast on Saturday.

Students of the school, particularly performed to the admiration of the gathering, a play entitled " A perilous choice" written by Master Moses Resario, a form three student of the school.

For their prize they received 300,000 cedis, a set of books and a trophy, whiles Master Resario, received an amount of 100,000 cedis, a 'T' shirt, set of books and a certificate as his award for been the best play write.

Wesley Girl High School, which performed a play entitled "The untold story" written by Fanny Morrison and Nana Gyankoma Sakyi both students of the school came second with 200 points and received 200,000 cedis and a set of textbooks as their prize.

Mfantsiman Girls came third with 198 points and received 100,000 cedis and a set of textbooks and Adisadel College, followed with 188 points and Saint Augustine's College fifth with 173 points. Ghana Secondary Technical School, from the Western Region, came sixth with 166 points, Holy Child, Swedru and Samo secondary schools followed with 163, 152 and 143 points respectively.
The awards for the best actress and actor, went to Matilda Ocloo, a form 2 Visual Arts student of the Wesley Girl High School and George Agblemedu a third year science student of Adisadel college. They received 100,000 cedis each, 'T' shirts and a set of textbooks.
The Director of the Cape Coast Centre for National Culture (CNC), Mr. Emmanuel Quao said the festival was aimed at identifying talented youth, so that their potentials could be channelled to "a more useful direction".
He said the performances at this year's event were better than that of last year and appealed for more sponsorship to sustain the festival, which was introduced nine years ago.
