Ho, July 26, GNA- Richard Kofi Akakpo and Shadrack Kpakpo, all in their 20's, who emerged first and second respectively in the Volta Regional Dance Championship in Ho, would represent the region in the National Dance Championship scheduled for September. The two were among three others who were short listed for the contest that attracted 17 contestants. For impressing the five-man judges and the enthusiastic crowd, Akakpo took a cheque of GH¢200 Ghana cedis, while Kpakpo received GH¢100, with GH¢50 going to Theophilus Ahiador who placed third. All the contestants did some minutes of free style boogies before dancing to their preferred songs and beats.
During the final dance for the five short listed contestants, elated Akakpo thrilled the funs with his free style energetic dance, attracting standing ovation from the ecstasy and noisy crowd. Three other young ladies were also selected to represent the region for the National Beauty Pageant, the Miss Ghana Competition. Miss Mimi Arimi, a Second Year Marketing Student from Sunyani Polytechnic, Miss Dela Kumashi, 23, a Marketing Executive and Miss Edna Agama,21, a Second Year Student of the Ghana Institute of Journalism were selected in that order out of 10 contestants. They all took GH¢200 for emerging finalist in the regional contest after answering questions from the judges.
The public would however vote by texting "MS/GH/Name of Contestant to 1443 to select the regional representative. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Regional Minister and the Agbogbomefia of Asogli Traditional Area who graced the occasion presented the awards to the winners.
This year's Miss Ghana and National Dance Championship is on the theme: "Re-discovering Ghana's true beauty and talent."
